Progress (of a sort!)

House update: Still no kitchen! D: However, everything else that can be done in the house has been done after the last of my furniture came out of storage at the weekend (for reasons too boring to explain, some things like my bed never went to Ireland and had to be retrieved from where they were put while I was over there). Assuming the kitchen fitters actually ever turn up, I am pretty sure the house is going to be marvellous to live in. Most importantly, I already LOVE the room I have (mostly) set up as the sewing room. It's the lightest of the bedrooms with a very large window in proportion to the room. I have managed to squeeze out a couple of quarter hours to work on a couple of projects and although I haven't finalized my room set up I definitely think it's going to be delightful to sew in. :D

In the last few days I used my little bit of crafty time to cut out my second Carme blouse. I hope to actually fire up the sewing machine tomorrow to get started on it. The first task is to make the pin-tucked yoke, which I found a strangely pleasant task on the black version I made last month, so I am quite looking forward to my sewing time tomorrow. :D

Lots of new patterns and previews around this week. I am not crazy about Burda for September, and torn over whether I want to buy Burda Plus A/W 2014. There was NOTHING I wanted in the new Butterick collection (so. many. peplums, ugh. D: ). The Named lookbook for their new collection made me roll my eyes because hi, I'd like to be able to SEE THE CLOTHES, idk, it's a revolutionary thought when thinking about patterns, but I think it might catch on if someone would try it! The one thing I MOST want is the Ottobre 05-2014 preview, because it's due out on August 26th and subscribers usually get the magazine at least a week before that, but so far there's nada, zip, nothing online, on either FB or their website. >:(

If you're wondering why I'm so ardently stalking all the pattern releases, it's because I have a hole in my sewing plans. I want a casual coat/jacket to wear with jeans to make up in black moleskine (which I already own) to make maybe late autumn and wear into winter. I have a bunch of patterns but nothing that is really yelling MAKE ME at me. I am hoping that somehow the perfect coat pattern will appear in the wave of autumn/winter pattern releases (ideally, I'm not going to lie, there would be the Perfect Coat in Ottobre 05/2014. Please have the Perfect Coat, Ottobre!) I have HUGE outerwear plans actually, which I will have to start pretty soon if I'm going to get use of them in the right season!

  1. Nothing grabbed me out of the new Butterick collection, either. I felt like I'd seen it all before. In terms of the Big 4, at least Vogue and Simplicity have released some interesting patterns for fall.

I cracked up at your comment about Named's lookbook. Pretty photos, pretty wolves, but yeah, no clearly identifiable details about the actual sewing patterns.

    1. My favourite of the Named unhelpful photos was the one that was just like, the lower half of a sleeve, helpfully annotated with which pattern it was. Not really WILDLY helpful in terms of telling me anything about the pattern, beyond "it has a cuff" and "wolves probably won't gnaw my arm off if I wear it?"

  2. So glad the house is coming along!!

I hope Ottobre has something good. The only must have for me in the Butterick release was the pattern with 4 jackets. I would make all 4!!

Maybe I'll try Ottobre this month since I'm passing on the September Burda.

Ooh Burda envelope patterns will be out soon too

    1. I can see the appeal of that Butterick jacket pattern, although that particular shape really doesn't work on my body type :D Look forward to seeing your (many?) versions!

I may have to slog through my million and one back issues of Burda to see if I have anything that really grabs me. :D

  3. Man, I can't believe they keep coming up with these kitchen emergencies (or whatever their excuse is now)...you have a kitchen emergency: you need one!

Yay for a second Carme! I will longingly pet it with my eyes from afar.

As for coats: have you looked through all of the existing Big4 (or whoever you enjoy stalking) coat patterns again? I find that sometimes when I go back through to look, making sure to look at all of the line drawings, I have seen potential in older patterns that I didn't see the first time around.

    1. I know, it's ridiculous! It is lucky I can live with my parents for as long as I need to, but even so, HI, I'D LIKE A KITCHEN, PLEASE >>>>:(

I think my second Carme is going to be pretty cute. I didn;t have much time to sew today as I had to run around and do car-related stuff but I did get the pleated yoke almost finished and I LOVE the way the fabric and the pintucks looks together. :D

Coat-wise, I think part of the problem is that I am not 100% sure what it is that I want other than "something that will work in black moleskin" and "something to wear mainly with jeans/casual wear". When I have a bit more time I'll probably trawl through everything I have available to me and all the patterns sites for possibilities (and probably post at length and boringly about it, because apparently that's how I roll).

  4. Oh man. The Butterick fall collection made me nauseous. That definitely shouldn't happen. =)

    Egad! Still no kitchen? WTH?

    1. I guess you won't be running to a pattern shop for the new Buttericks then! D: (I wasn't nauseous but I am so very very peplumed out and it was like EVERY SINGLE PATTERN had a peplum.)

I have come to loathe the kitchen fitters. >:( We think they are lying and there's no emergency, they just went away on holiday. >:(
